Finding the right plan for your kids
Help for parents
Here are some resources to help you find a health plan for your child and make sure it includes the doctors you want.
You can check for plans and prices in your area at Healthcare.gov and also compare and purchase plans at eHealthInsurance.com.
The National Assn. of Insurance Commissioners’ website will connect you to your state’s department of insurance; many of these offer consumers a list of licensed insurance agents. Go to https://www.naic.org and click on the tab “States & Jurisdictions,†then click on the state in which you live on the map of the U.S.
If you suspect you’re being overcharged, or your child is denied coverage for any reason, contact California’s Department of Insurance at https://www.insurance.ca.gov; click on the “talk to us†section under the consumer heading of the home page.
Insurance companies typically offer an online tool that allows consumers to search for specific doctors within the network of contracted providers. And sites such as eHealthInsurance.com offer a physician-finder tool you can use while shopping for a plan. It’s always a good idea to follow up with a phone call to the doctor’s office to confirm that the information online is current.
