The ultimate St. Patrick’s Day dining guide
Everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, which happens to fall on a Sunday this year -- making everyone Irish all weekend long. Whether you’re on the Westside or downtown, there are plenty of late-night bars and early morning brunch spots serving traditional corned beef and cabbage, Irish Car Bomb concoctions and other Irish-inspired eats and drinks, Friday through Sunday:
Casey’s Irish Pub: Casey’s will be starting the festivities early, at 6 a.m., to host its annual St. Patty’s Day street festival in downtown L.A. The celebration will feature Irish fare and brews, giveaways and live music by tribute bands. Cecconi’s: The northern Italian restaurant in West Hollywood will be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day brunch on Sunday only. The menu will feature “green eggs†-- poached eggs on a bed of sauteed spinach, avocado and basil pesto over an English muffin -- and Guinness on tap. 8764 Melrose Ave., W. Dillon’s Irish Pub: Dillon’s in Hollywood has a countdown to St. Patrick’s Day on its website, which should be an indicator that it’s serious about celebrating Irish heritage this weekend. The Original Farmers Market: Magee’s Kitchen, which opened in 1934, will be serving up the restaurant’s traditional corned beef, cabbage and boiled potatoes Sunday at the Farmers Market while Glen the Strolling Bagpiper and Jerry McLean fill the market with sounds of traditional Irish music throughout the day. Freddy Smalls: The West L.A. eatery will be opening its doors Sunday (a day the restaurant is typically closed) to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with corned beef sandwiches and a “Shillelagh†cocktail, made with Irish dry whiskey, dry vermouth and mint syrup. The Parish: On Saturday and Sunday, Casey Lane’s English gastropub will be offering a “bangers and mash†menu featuring housemade sausages and charcuterie. Dishes such as blood sausage with horseradish potatoes and cotechino with stewed potatoes and cabbage will be available for pairing with Irish-inspired drinks such as the O’Hara Irish Stout and Irish Old Fashioned. 844 S. Rock & Reilly’s: The Irish whiskey pub will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday with an outdoor festival featuring booze, food trucks and a live DJ set. Tavern: Irish-inspired dishes will be offered for dinner starting at 5 p.m. Sunday, also available for take-out from the Larder (48-hour advance order required). On the St. Patrick’s Day menu at Tavern: corned beef brisket with braised cabbage, Yukon Gold potatoes and whole grain mustard ($24); shepherd’s pie with braised lamb, carrots, peas and mashed potatoes ($22); crispy duck confit with stout reduction, colcannon potatoes and house-smoked bacon ($26); Suzanne’s chocolate stout cake with Guinness ice cream ($10). Wilshire: The restaurant is hosting its first “Paddy O’Party†on Sunday, benefiting the Westside Food Bank. Wilshire’s St. Patrick’s Day party will include Irish coffee, Irish Car Bombs, Guinness and green beer in addition to a brunch menu featuring dishes such as Irish stew pie, bangers and mash, fish and chips and corned beef sliders.
