Food FYI: Duggar family’s burger bill totals more than $600
The Duggar family -- all 21 of them -- are the stars of the TLC reality television series “19 Kids and Counting.†Parents Jim Bob and Michelle have 19 children (whose names all start with the letter J), and feeding a family that goes through 16 boxes of cereal and seven gallons of milk each week can’t be easy.
Neither is it cheap. How much does it cost for a family the size of two basketball teams to eat out? When the Duggars went to dinner at Bill’s Bar & Burger in Manhattan on Monday, the bill totaled $614, according to TMZ. (Other websites say the bill was $617.)
Jim Bob and Michelle, along with their children Joshua, twins Jana and John-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah and Jeremiah (again twins), Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn-Grace and Josie, were in New York to announce the impending birth of the family’s third grandchild and to promote the new TV special “The Duggars Do Asia.â€
Their dinner party of 23 -- the whole family plus a couple of relatives -- headed to Bill’s Bar & Burger at Rockefeller Center, “the biggest standalone burger joint in the country†(says its website) -- presumably big enough to accommodate nearly two dozen diners sitting down to one table.
According to the Bill’s Bar & Burger menu, burgers start at $7.59 (extras such as cheese and other toppings cost more); shakes are $6 each; fries, $4; and nachos, $8. An article in the Examiner said that some of the Duggars were able to order from the discounted kids’ menu.
The bill didn’t include tip, reported the Examiner.
