The Spice Table will serve its last supper Dec. 31

The Spice Table will be closing at the end of the year, the brick building in which it’s located to be demolished by the Metro Transportation Authority to make way for its underground subway station.

So chef-owner Bryant Ng is serving the last Spice Table supper on Dec. 31, a New Year’s Eve dinner and send-off party of all-you-can-drink-and-eat from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. “It’s a clearance sale ... so everything must go!â€

Ng says that he and his wife, Kim, are still in the process of looking for a downtown (or near downtown) place to relocate the Spice Table. Meanwhile, the Ngs have teamed with Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan of Rustic Canyon, Milo & Olive, Huckleberry and Sweetrose Creamery to open a restaurant in Santa Monica next summer. “We’re still working through the details of the new restaurant,†writes Ng in an email, “but the food will be influenced by the flavors of Southeast Asia and the culinary heritages of Kim and myself.

“Regarding the closing of the Spice Table, I’ve already gone through the gamut of emotions: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Kim and I opened the Spice Table with no expectations beyond sharing the flavors of Southeast Asia to as many people as possible. The response to what we were cooking and the environment we created exceeded what we ever hoped for.... I hope that the Spice Table has added to the diverse culinary landscape of Los Angeles, expanding the dialogue of Asian cuisine beyond simply Chinese, Japanese or Korean food. In whatever direction or form the Spice Table takes, I am honored to be a part of something that my staff and I are proud of.â€

New Year’s Eve dinner is $75 per person; space is limited. Call for reservations.
