Royal to open in Hollywood with po’ boys, beignet churros and frozen daiquiris
Royal, a new New Orleans-themed restaurant, is scheduled to open Wednesday in Hollywood. There won’t be impromptu parades or half-naked people wandering around with beads, but there will be po’ boys and frozen daiquiris.
Owners Joshua Kopel and Mark Egland replaced their former NOLA-inspired restaurant, Five0Four, with Royal, named after Royal Street in the New Orleans French Quarter.
Michael Ruiz, who also helms the kitchen at Preux & Proper downtown, will be making po’ boy sandwiches with Spanish chorizo, manchego, tomato, sweet pepper spread and olive salad; a version with shrimp, marinated cucumber, carrot, radish, herbs and hot sauce aioli; and an egg and cheese, made with scrambled eggs, Gruyere, tomato and arugula.
There’s also a “banana cake sando,†made with spiced peanut and moonshine maple syrup, and cinnamon-and-sugar-dusted beignet churros with bittersweet chocolate sauce.
And there will be plenty of frozen daiquiris and punch bowls, with a frozen daiquiri machine making five flavors. But Pablo Moix (Chestnut Club and Scopa Italian Roots) has also created a cocktail program with his version of classic drinks, including a sazerac, a French 75 and a lemon smash.
Moix is also mixing a couple of new cocktails: the Green Beast, made with absinthe, simple syrup and lime juice, and something called the hibiscus mule, made with vodka, aperol, hibiscus syrup, ginger beer and lime juice.
While you’re drinking from a punch bowl, a live brass band will provide the music.
Royal will be open daily from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. with happy hour, dinner and a late-night menu.
Royal, 6541 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles.
