It’s nothing new for the Orange County Fair to offer all manner of deep-fried, bacon-wrapped foods, but this year, it seems that there is even more bacon, and then, there’s the debut of the Krispy Kreme sloppy Joe sandwich.

Crowds of people flocked to the many food vendors Sunday afternoon, but the lines were longest at Chicken Charlie’s stand, where customers are greeted with larger than life photos of fried Oreos, fried chicken and more. The food vendor introduced the new Krispy Kreme sloppy Joe sandwich this year, and it’s quickly become a bestseller.

“We’ve been selling so many,†said one woman working at the stand’s register as she handed a sandwich to a waiting couple. “Actually, I’m amazed at how many we’ve been selling,†she said.

The sandwich ($7.75) is a hefty helping of saucy ground beef and shredded cheddar cheese between two halves of a Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut.

The stand also sells deep fried everything, including avocados, Kool-Aid, cookie dough, chicken, bacon-wrapped pickles, Oreos and more. One couple was disappointed to find that the stand, like most of the country, was still waiting for its shipment of Twinkies and was unable to make the deep fried snack cakes.

“Oh wow, a bacon-wrapped turkey leg?†“Wait, bacon garlic fries?†Two woman excitedly pointed to the Bacon-O’Fair stand’s giant menu, then jumped in line giggling. The menu features a picture of a woman holding two electrode paddles of a heart defibrillator.

Bacon, a popular fair food, is the star at Bacon-O-Fair, where they sell beer-battered bacon, served with a side of fries ($13), a bacon wrapped smoked turkey leg ($20), a “Porkabello†kebab made with gouda stuffed mushrooms wrapped in bacon, served with a side of fries and a small cup of cheese ($15) and “cheesy bacon bombs†made with pepper-jack cheese stuffed crescent rolls that are wrapped in bacon, deep fried then covered in garlic butter ($7.50).

And the gluttony didn’t stop there. A walk farther into the fair reveals Greek food, large Australian battered and fried potatoes, ice cream, slurpees, candy, pizza, fries, burger, barbecue, foot-long corn dogs and hot dogs and more.
