The collection: Duckie Brown, designed by Daniel Silver and Steven Cox, who’ve dubbed their spring-summer 2013 collection “Duckie Pleasures.â€

The inspiration: Maybe we’re reading too much into the the title of the collection, but the runway was filled with the fabrics -- raw denim and tartan patterns --and playful exercises in volume that are a familiar part of the brand’s DNA, an arena they clearly enjoying playing within, which made the collection feel like Duckie Brown’s sartorial equivalent of comfort food.

The look: That meant dark, raw-looking denim overalls, denim trousers with voluminous legs and crisp trouser cuffs that folded up a good six to eight inches of fabric and multiple riffs on the iconic denim jacket silhouette – including a backless version. The collection was equally mad for plaid – an assortment of tartans graced bomber jackets, overalls, tuxedo jackets and a pair of trousers with an accordion-like ruffle flourish that fanned across the small of the back.

The scene: NBA players Chrish Bosh and Rajon Rondo were front-row fixtures at the show, and while it’s hard to imagine either one wearing anything the Duckie duo sent down the runway, the ginormous excess of trouser cuff would make tailoring a pair of the pants to fit their frames a slam dunk.

The verdict: While it’s always enjoyable to see what surprises Duckie Brown has in store -- a bomber jacket where the black denim fabric is draped and folded into an outsized flower blooming from the breastbone – the spring-summer collection felt more old Duckie than new. We’re hoping that’s because the designers have been channeling their creative efforts into their collaboration with Perry Ellis, a collection that is set to show here on Tuesday.
