First Lady Michelle Obama wows in Tracy Reese at the DNC

All eyes were on First Lady Michelle Obama on Tuesday night as she took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., wearing a custom-made dress by designer Tracy Reese. Of course, the main attraction was the first lady’s speech, but once again the fashion world took notice of her fashion sense.

The sleeveless, full-skirted dress was crafted from a shimmery pink-and-gold brocade print, which transitioned to a blue-and-gray bottom trim. The choice was unexpected and elegant. On her feet were a pair of “rhubarb†heels from J. Crew, one of Obama’s favorite brands.

No official word on the price of Obama’s custom-made dress, but Tracy Reese dresses range from $148 to $448 on the designer’s site.

Obama kept her accessories minimal but made a bold choice with her nail color. It appeared to be a purple-gray hue and complemented her choice of dress nicely.

Not since Jackie O has a first lady reached fashion-icon status. Obama’s mix of high fashion and brands such as J. Crew and Target have made her an accessible fixture in the fashion world. She is a regular on Vogue’s weekly 10 best dressed list, and was recently recognized on the list for wearing a green-and-blue floral print Barbara Tfank dress to the Kids State Dinner in August.

Other notable Obama style moments include her choice of a one-shoulder, white, flouncy Jason Wu frock at the Inaugural Ball in 2009, the red and black Alexander McQueen gown she wore to the 2011 state dinner for the People’s Republic of China President Hu Jintao, and the one-shoulder deep-purple dress by Korean American designer Doo-Ri Chung she chose for a Korean state dinner.
