Here’s what’s going on in every corner of Los Angeles fashion week
The wind-down of the fall/winter 2016 Paris ready-to-wear shows on Wednesday means it will be time for the hometown team to kick things into high gear for Los Angeles’ many and varied fashion weeks, which get underway in earnest on March 13.
As is tradition, the calendar is a crazy quilt of competing and overlapping events organized for the benefit of fashion industry media and store buyers making the twice-yearly trek here for market week. And as in the past, the upcoming shows promise to serve up a little bit of everything for everybody from children’s clothes to couture-level gowns by designers as close as downtown L.A. and as far away as Asia. Here are some of the events on the docket.
Art Hearts Fashion has announced plans to return to the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood for a three-day stand of shows from March 14 to 17. Presenting labels include Mimi Tran, Willfredo Gerardo, Mister Triple X, Walter Mendez, Merline Labissiere, Stello Official and Rocky Gathercole. As in past seasons, the schedule includes a Wednesday afternoon showcase of kidswear brands. This season’s charitable partner is VH1’s Save the Music Foundation, which will organize a musical performance to kick off the children’s shows. Also in the mix this season is a 10-designer showcase on Thursday presented by the Art Institutes of California. For more information, visit artheartsfashion.com.

Style Fashion Week is relocating from the Reef in downtown L.A. to the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, where plans include three days of shows, March 17 to 19, along with the L.A. Fashion Market trade show and an art show. Among the confirmed labels presenting are L.A.-based brands Hale Bob, Liberty Garden, Foxbait and Armature as well as labels from farther afield including Malan Breton, I Am Zoe and Ca-Rio-CA. Uppercase LA Fashion Week (well, that’s our nickname for it since its organizers trademarked the name “LA Fashion Weekâ€), which made its debut at Union Station last season, is also on the move, planning its sophomore stand of shows at the new Columbia Square development at 6221 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. That event’s three-day run, March 17 to 19, is expected to feature 11 brands including Dena Burton, Cosmogyral, Marcelos Quadros and Phlemuns. It’s also giving itself a new name — O’Gara Los Angeles Fashion Week, thanks to title sponsor O’Gara Coach Co. luxury car dealership. Visit lafw.net for information.
It wouldn’t feel like Los Angeles fashion week without another upstart event joining the scrum, and this season’s new kid on the block is Fashion Week Los Angeles, which has announced plans to stage three days of shows at downtown’s Union Station starting March 13 and which currently has a two-day schedule posted online that includes swimwear, menswear and women’s ready-to-wear shows interspersed with panel discussions. To date, confirmed labels include Cynthia Rowley, Moods of Norway and Robin’s Jean. Visit fwla.com for information.
