Las Vegas: Bye, THEhotel; Delano and South Beach chic will take over
Say goodbye to THEhotel at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and welcome a new name and vibe when the Delano Las Vegas takes over late this summer.
The renovation will infuse the 1,100 suites with Delano’s South Beach brand when the hotel welcomes guests starting Sept. 1.
Renderings and descriptions of the renovation, which has been delayed by more than a year, were released Wednesday by Mandalay Bay and Morgans Hotel Group. The latter operates the chic Delano South Beach in Miami with its Philippe Starck-designed interior, and the Mondrian in West Hollywood.
The Delano upgrade promises:
— A divided boulder from the local desert as part of an elaborate stone entry with a wood-slatted gate meant to evoke the Mojave Desert beyond;
— A stone path in the entry with columns “enveloped in Delano’s iconic white sheers and statement mirrors,” a hotel statement says;
— Rivea restaurant by chef Alain Ducasse that will serve French and Italian cuisine from the 64th floor (slated to open late this year or winter 2015);
— Rooms of 725 square feet (that’s bigger than many L.A. apartments) with crisp, clean designs in white and neutral colors, and spa-style baths;
— The Bathhouse Spa and private pool near the Mandalay Bay Beach and wave pool.
Reservations for Sept. 1 and beyond are being taken online, but no word yet on room prices.
