Kelly Osbourne exits E!’s scandal-tainted ‘Fashion Police’
Kelly Osbourne has fled “Fashion Police.â€
E! Entertainment announced Friday that Osbourne has parted ways with the snarky celebrity fashion show “to pursue other opportunities,†according to a statement.
The announcement came at the end of a tough week for the show. On Monday, co-host Giuliana Rancic ignited an uproar when she made a crack about the dreadlocks of Disney Channel star Zendaya. Rancic joked that Zendaya looked as if she smelled of “patchouli oil and weed†-- a remark that many viewers interpreted as racist. She later apologized for the joke, which was reportedly written by a staffer.
Osbourne, the 30-year-old daughter of TV personality Sharon Osbourne and metal rocker Ozzy Osbourne, seemed at first caught off guard by the controversy.
“What have I missed here?,†she tweeted after a viewer criticized her and Rancic by name.
Later, she added: “I WILL NOT BE DRAGED [sic] INTO THIS!â€
She later wrote that she didn’t make the weed joke, did not condone racism and was questioning whether to stay with the show.
By Friday the matter was settled.
“We would like to thank her for her many contributions to the series over the past five years,†E!’s statement read in part.
The network added that “Fashion Police†would return to the air as scheduled on March 30 and that no decision had yet been reached on a successor. Osbourne did not immediately address her departure on Twitter.
Co-hosts Brad Goreski and Kathy Griffin remain with the show, as -- for now -- does Rancic.
