Trevor Noah will make his debut as host of “The Daily Show†on Sept. 28, Comedy Central announced Thursday.

The South African comedian is taking over for longtime host Jon Stewart, who will sign off from the satirical news program on Aug. 6.

Comedy Central broke the news with a teaser clip of Noah trying out Stewart’s chair. As for the pressing question of what “The Daily Show†might look like under its new leader, the 30-second video offered little to go on.

Noah was named as Stewart’s replacement in March and was widely considered a surprise pick. His appointment to the job quickly became controversial thanks to some old tweets, some of which were considered sexist and anti-Semitic (and others just not funny).

The furor grew so loud that Stewart defended Noah on air, calling him “an incredibly thoughtful and considerate and funny and smart individual.â€

Noah’s “Daily Show†debut will arrive shortly after Stephen Colbert, Stewart’s former Comedy Central stablemate, takes over for David Letterman at “Late Show†on Sept. 8.
