Shrek This clever, 2001 Oscar-winning comedy-fantasy is the computer-animated saga of an ogre (Mike Myers) who adores a princess (Cameron Diaz). Together with a wisecracking donkey (Eddie Murphy), they oppose a tyrannical ruler (John Lithgow) who wants all fairy tales abolished. 7 p.m. TOON

The Help This adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s bestseller finds a would-be author (Emma Stone) interviewing Southern housekeepers about their experiences. Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer are superb as two of the most prominent interviewees. With Bryce Dallas Howard, Jessica Chastain, Sissy Spacek, Cicely Tyson, Aunjanue Ellis and Mary Steenburgen. 7:30 p.m. Showtime

Trouble With the Curve Clint Eastwood returned to the screen in this well-performed 2012 drama as a baseball scout near the end of his career who’s traveling with his long-estranged daughter (Amy Adams). Justin Timberlake also stars. 8 p.m. HBO
