Pop channel orders second season of ‘Creek’ comedy
Pop, the recently launched cable channel collaboration between CBS and Lionsgate, has renewed its first scripted series, “Schitt’s Creek,” for a second season.
The Eugene Levy-Catherine O’Hara comedy series, created by Levy and his son, Daniel, will return for a second season of 13 episodes.
The series reunites former “Best in Show” and “SCTV” cast mates Levy and O’Hara as a formerly wealthy couple who must live with their children in the town of Schitt’s Creek, which they once bought as a joke when they were rolling in money. Daniel Levy plays their hipster son, and Annie Murphy plays their socialite daughter. Chris Elliott plays the town’s mayor.
L.A. Times TV critic Robert Lloyd described the first season as “very funny, beautifully played, sometimes touching.”
No doubt part of the show’s success is attributable to Levy and O’Hara’s chemistry, which they’ve used since their time on “SCTV” and through the many semi-improvised films of Christopher Guest, including “Waiting for Guffman,” “Best in Show,” “A Mighty Wind” and “For Your Consideration.”
The second season will begin on Pop sometime in 2016.
