TBS has greenlighted a police procedural spoof called “Tribeca†from Steve Carell and his wife, actress Nancy Carell.

The single-camera, half-hour comedy was developed by the Carells in conjunction with Steve’s production company, Carousel Television. TBS’ new comedy vice president, Thom Hinkle, headed up Carousel during the show’s development and helped sell it to TBS before joining the network early last month.

“Tribeca†seems to be in the same vein as the new Fox cop comedy and Andy Samberg vehicle, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.†It tips the traditional police procedural on its head while telling the story of Angie Tribeca. Tribeca is a 10-year vet of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Really Heinous Crimes Unit (RHCU).

The cops in the show are portrayed as hilarioulsy clueless when it comes to fighting crime.

TBS is at a crossroads when it comes to original scripted programming. The news about “Tribeca†comes a week before the premiere of the network’s newest comedy, the multi-camera “Ground Floor,†by “Scrubs†creator Bill Lawrence, starring John C. McGinley, Skylar Astin and Briga Heelan.

Both shows are intended to build on the success of TBS’ shows “Cougar Town,†“Men at Work†and “Sullivan & Son.â€
