‘Newsroom’ ratings post gain for HBO in Season 2 premiere

Maybe the legacy media aren’t dead after all: Aaron Sorkin’s “The Newsroom†posted a small gain in its Season 2 premiere Sunday.

An average of 2.2 million total viewers tuned in to the 10 p.m. broadcast, according to Nielsen.

That’s a relatively modest 4% gain compared with last year’s premiere, but at least the numbers are headed in a positive direction. That’s good news for HBO, given that Sorkin’s series about a fictional cable news network was considered something of a disappointment last season.

When numbers for a later airing were included, “Newsroom†aggregated 2.6 million viewers for the night.

At 9 p.m., the vampire series “True Blood†drew 4.5 million viewers, for the most-watched episode so far this season.
