USA Network picks up ‘Mr. Robot’ Season 2 ahead of series premiere

USA Network has already picked up a second season of its new cybersecurity drama “Mr. Robot” before its debut episode hit the airwaves.

The series, which launches its first 10-episode season Wednesday night on the cable channel, stars Rami Malek as Elliott, a techie by day and vigilante hacker by night, and Christian Slater as the titular Mr. Robot, the leader of an underground hacker co-op bent on taking down the 1%.

USA has already ordered up a minimum of 10 more episodes of Sam Esmail’s psychological thriller about disillusioned young adults, which it’s slating for 2016.

“Mr. Robot’s” pilot went online and on-demand four weeks ahead of its television premiere date and is said to has already racked up nearly 3 million viewers, USA said.

“We knew from the moment we read Sam Esmail’s provocative script, and witnessed the brilliant performances of Rami Malek and Christian Slater, that Mr. Robot is a standout series that is unlike anything currently on television,” USA Network President Chris McCumber said in a statement.

McCumber added the series pilot has already received an “overwhelmingly positive” fan response and the broad sampling of it reaffirms the network’s confidence in the series.
