Michael Strahan makes debut as ‘Good Morning America’ co-host
The increasingly ubiquitous Michael Strahan continued his quest to take over the airwaves Tuesday, making his debut as a part-time co-host on ABC’s “Good Morning America.â€
He received a warm welcome -- and even a few gifts -- from his new a.m. colleagues. “We love you, we love Kelly. So excited you’re going to join us a couple of days a week,†said Robin Roberts.

In a deal announced this month, the former NFL star will be making several visits to the show each week. That’s in addition to his daily gig as co-host of the ABC-produced “Live! with Kelly and Michael,†where he’s been since September 2012. During the football season, Strahan also provides analysis on “Fox NFL Sunday,†which tapes in California, and has indicated he would like to continue in that role.
“It’s a pleasure to get up early because you guys have been so good to us as well,†Strahan said on “GMA†Tuesday. “It’s a family. So we appreciate you guys as well.â€
Co-anchors George Stephanopoulos and Lara Spencer presented the gap-toothed host with a few gifts to commemorate the occasion, including a vintage alarm clock, an enormous branded coffee mug and a wheelbarrow of Sour Patch Kids (Strahan’s favorite).
Strahan’s introductory visit, just a few minutes after 8 a.m. ET, was a short one: He had just enough time to say hello and throw to the next segment before heading uptown to host “Live!†at 9 a.m.
