Lifetime orders ‘The Omen’ sequel series

Lifetime has portrayed a lot of unsavory dudes over the years, but now it’s topping them all with the Antichrist himself. The cable channel announced on Monday that it has ordered “Damien,†a sequel series to the classic “The Omen.â€

The series will air a six-episode first season sometime in 2015 with former “Walking Dead†showrunner Glen Mazzara serving as writer and executive producer. It will be produced by Fox Television Studios.

The series will take up after the end of “The Omen,†which was first produced in 1976 and remade in 2006. Both films depicted a young boy named Damien, the son of a U.S. diplomat who has been prophesied to become the Antichrist. Want proof? He’s got a 666 birthmark on his skull. Unless it’s a 999, in which case he’s totally OK. (Thanks, “Saturday Night Live.â€)

The original film was followed by “Damien: Omen II†in 1978 and “Omen III: The Final Conflict†in 1981. It wasn’t actually the final conflict, since there was also “Omen IV: The Awakening†in 1991.

The Lifetime series follows an adult Damien who has to come to grips with his identity and all the bad things that tend to happen to those around him.

Here’s hoping Mazzara brings on the Hell Hounds.
