Hannibal Buress takes shot at Bill Cosby in debut of Comedy Central series

Apparently Hannibal Buress is sleeping with one eye open these days.

The comedian took a shot at Bill Cosby on Wednesday night in the premiere of his Comedy Central show, “Why? With Hannibal Buress.”

In a monologue taped before a studio audience, the low-key Buress mused about topics including Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, Greece’s financial woes and the women’s World Cup.

This week’s headlines, which included the unsealing of an incriminating 2005 deposition in which Cosby admitted to having sex with a 19-year-old woman after giving her a Quaalude, gave Buress plenty of material to work with.

But it was actually during a riff about his discomfort with male hotel housekeepers -- which he admitted might be sexist -- that Buress acknowledged his own pivotal if unlikely role in getting the public to take seriously the allegations against Cosby.

“I don’t like when it’s a dude,” Buress said. “I don’t even believe it’s housekeeping. Get out of here. I know you’re not housekeeping. You’re a … Bill Cosby assassin.”

Otherwise Buress kept the Cosby-bashing to a minimum in the premiere, which wove together his stand-up with scripted bits. The episode opened with Buress stopping by “Conan,” and featured his supposed audition for “The Daily Show.” In another he confronted his biggest Twitter hater, who turned out to be fellow Comedy Central star Amy Schumer.
