‘Grace and Frankie’ will return for a second season on Netflix
“Grace and Frankie†will be back for a second season, Netflix announced Tuesday via Twitter.
The comedy, which premiered May 8 on the streaming service, stars Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda as a pair of opposites thrust together then their husbands leave them for each other. Tomlin plays Frankie, a hippie-dippie painter, while Fonda plays Grace, an uptight perfectionist. Sam Waterston and Martin Sheen co-star as their soon-to-be-former husbands.
Since Netflix does not disclose viewership information about its shows, it’s unclear whether “Grace and Frankie†has been a hit. Reviews for the comedy, from “Friends†co-creator Marta Kauffman, have been mixed. (Times critic Robert Lloyd called the show “a little wan†and said that “I found myself caring more about the actresses than the characters they played.â€)
The odd-couple series has at least one high-profile admirer: In a recent tweet, pop star Miley Cyrus praised its “bad a$$†leads.
The streaming service continues to expand its original comedy offerings, which include “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt†from Tina Fey and Robert Carlock and the animated series “BoJack Horseman.â€
