‘Dancing With the Stars’ results recap: Wynonna’s last dance
Prom night at “Dancing With the Stars†was fun and all, but at the end of the day, someone had to leave this dance. And in this third week of competition, the lowest number of judges’ scores and viewer votes befell country star Wynonna and her rock star of a pro partner, Tony Dovolani, and both were ejected from the competition.
Wynonna met this news matter-of-factly. “This is the hardest job I’ve ever loved. I’m a singer, not a dancer,†she said. “I’ve faced some of my biggest fears, and I’ve made a lifetime friend out of Tony.†And the defending pro champ and Albanian stallion continued to maintain his unwavering optimism and kindness toward his latest partner.
The saddest moment was shown in the recap backstage after Monday night’s dance, when the harsh judges’ comments were met with even harsher scores. Tony, ever the beacon of light said, “It’s okay, baby, I’m proud of you.†And Wynonna, with a small quiver of her rock-star pink lips, said quietly, “But they’re right. I have a long way to go.â€

Oh, Wynonna. You seemed like such a positive force up in that sky box, it’s no wonder that your fellow Season 16 contestants descended upon you and capped you with the Prom Queen sash and crown. I’m sad that you had to leave before you got to let your inner dancer soar.
Lisa Vanderpump and Gleb Savchenko were also deemed in jeopardy, though it was Andy Dick and Sharna Burgess that joined Wynonna and Tony in the bottom two.
The results hour kicked off, however, with what Tom called “‘Game of Thrones,’ the ballroom edition†as Jacoby Jones and Zendaya were crowned Prom King and Queen, as decided upon by Twitter votes. Zendaya and Jacoby got to sit in the seats of honor while Huey Lewis and the News performed “Heart of Rock and Roll†to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their album, “Sports.â€
Remember how in “Back to the Future†Huey Lewis played the high school administrator who told Michael J. Fox’s Marty McFly that his band was too loud for prom? Well, it all kind of came full circle here. Loved how the Troupe brought King Jacoby and Queen Zendaya off their thrones and in the middle of the dance floor, where they did the Kid N Play right before going to commercial. Who needs another prom after this? Most fun ever!
Prom Night Photo Booth time! The cast gave out awards to their fellow classmates. Andy Dick got Class Crown (“except for when he cries,†said Ingo Rademacher). Jacoby was voted best farter by partner Karina Smirnoff. “Who’s the black guy on the show who has no rhythm?†Cheryl Burke asked. D.L. Hughley raised his hands.
Since the viewers took to Twitter to vote for their prom king and queen, the judges took it upon themselves to choose the encore dance. Only, Carrie Ann and Len couldn’t agree on which routine they wanted, so they left it up to Bruno … and of course, Bruno chose the “YMCA†cha cha with Sean Lowe and Peta Murgatroyd, and inserted himself as the fifth Village Person. It was only right, as Judge Tonioli had the perfect outfit for the routine -- leather pants and a studded leather jacket, which he took off at the end of the routine. Carrie Ann gave him a 10 paddle, and he fanned himself with it afterward. “First four pack we’ve ever seen,†Tom said.
Hello, male pros and Troupe! The Men of Season 16 showed off their macho goods with a high-octane, testosterone and leather fueled-routine that was choreographed by Jason Gilkison and, as Tom said, was “based on an actual spray tan rumble.â€
The Macy’s Stars of Dance segments are back, and this one was a real mind warp, a Memento-type performance featuring a routine set to Bruno Mars and played…backward, choreographed by Nick Florez and R.J. Durell. Trippy!
Demi Lovato returned to the “DWTS†ballroom to sing her single “Heart Attack†from her soon-to-be-released album, “Demi.†Members of the Troupe danced. I was told if I couldn’t say anything nice, I shouldn’t say anything at all. So I’ll stop there.
Well, after my three favorite lines of the night.
- “Don’t touch what you can’t afford, sweetheart.†– Len, to a starstruck crew member
- Tony Dovolani: “Who’s the most likely to get a 10 from Len?†Wynonna: “Nobody.â€
- “We barely did it!†Lisa Vanderpump to Gleb after their Viennese waltz
What do you think, ballroom fans? Sad to see Wynonna and Tony go? Who were your picks for prom king and queen? Think the judges have been too harsh on D.L.?
