The classic television franchise “Candid Camera†is making a comeback on TV Land. The nostalgia-themed cable channel TV Land has ordered 10 new episodes of the series to air later this summer.

Peter Funt, the son of the show’s original creator, Allen Funt, will serve as the new series’ co-host and executive producer. The younger Funt had previously co-hosted “Candid Camera†specials with his father beginning in 1987.

“We’ll be daring but respectful, funny yet insightful,†Peter Funt said in a statement.

The original “Candid Camera†first aired in 1948 with the title “Candid Microphone,†which was the title it had when it was on the radio. It changed to “Candid Camera†the next year, when it moved to NBC. But the premise has remained the same: use a hidden camera to capture people’s reactions to strange situations, usually capped with the phrase, “Smile, you’re on ‘Candid Camera’.â€

The premise has been used on many different shows over the years, including “TV’s Bloopers and Practical Jokes,†“Punk’d†and “Scare Tactics,†among others.

The most recent version of “Candid Camera†aired on PAX from 2001 until 2004 with Dina Eastwood as host.
