Barbara Walters is still in the hospital, according to her “The View†co-host Whoopi Goldberg, and she now has chicken pox.

That’s right, the disease many people get as children is now afflicting the 83-year-old newswoman.

“We want to give you an update on Barbara,†Goldberg said on “The View†on Monday. “You all know that she fell and cut her head 10 days ago, and then was running a temperature, but it turns out it is all the result of a delayed childhood. Barbara has the chicken pox. She’d never had it as a child. So now she’s been told to rest, she’s not allowed any visitors, and we’re telling you, Barbara — no scratching.â€

Walters has been hospitalized since last week, when she fell during an inauguration party at the British ambassador’s residence in Washington and cut her head. Then she developed a fever, and now the chicken pox. She was in a Washington hospital and has since been transferred to a hospital in New York.

Although the chicken pox infection is not considered life-threatening, it is more serious in adults than in children, since adults can sometimes develop complications such as pneumonia, according to the European Respiratory Journal.

There’s been no indication about when Walters will return to the show but she did release a statement last week thanking all those who had expressed concern.
