The horrible secret is finally out: Lifetime’s “Flowers in the Attic” was a ratings success.
An average of 6.1 million total viewers tuned in to Saturday’s TV adaptation of V.C. Andrews’ best-seller about a troubled family and its awful secrets, with Ellen Burstyn leading the cast as the fierce grandmother.

That was far better than the total for some other recent Lifetime TV-movie efforts, including last year’s “Anna Nicole” (3.3 million) and the Elizabeth Taylor-Richard Burton biopic “Liz & Dick” (3.5 million).
In fact, “Flowers” was Lifetime’s top performer since 2012’s “Steel Magnolias” with Queen Latifah and Alfre Woodard, which drew 6.5 million viewers.
