TNT greenlights Michael Bay drama ‘The Last Ship’
TNT has given a series order to the Michael Bay-produced drama “The Last Ship.â€
The series is based on the William Brinkley novel that centers on a global cataclysm that nearly wipes out Earth’s inhabitants, with a crew on a Navy destroyer among the only survivors.
“ ‘The Last Ship’ has all the elements of a big Hollywood blockbuster, from its epic storytelling to its top-notch cast headed by the perfect leading man, Eric Dane,†Michael Wright, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies, said in a statement. “Michael Bay and his fellow executive producers have shaped William Brinkley’s story and characters into an exceptional drama full of action, suspense, tragedy and triumph. ‘The Last Ship’ is smart, fun television that takes you on a great ride.â€

The series stars “Grey’s Anatomy†heartthrob Eric Dane as Tom Chandler, the commanding officer of the ship. TNT has ordered 10 episodes of the series, which some folks on Twitter are already equating to “Last Resort†meets “Waterworld†... maybe a little “The Walking Dead.â€
It’s set to roll out next year.
So what do you get when Bay, the man behind “Transformers†(and more recently “Pain & Gainâ€) takes on the high seas?
Duh: explosions, explosions, explosions. And some yelling.
