‘Conan’ imagines the Oscars as sung by Russell Crowe

Despite the nearly universal consensus that Sunday’s Oscars telecast was overly long and dull, between Jennifer Lawrence’s instantly iconic faceplant to Renee Zellweger’s loopy onstage demeanor to all those sound guys with Fabio hair, there was plenty of fodder for late-night comedians Monday night.

On “Conan,†it was “Les Miserables†star Russell Crowe who was the butt of the joke. The show has had a good time poking fun at the actor for his, shall we say, less than dazzling vocals, which were fully on display during Sunday’s ensemble performance of “One Day More.â€

Conan O’Brien confessed that he was surprised that Crowe was included “because most people didn’t love†the Aussie’s singing in the film. But, O’Brien reasoned, the Academy must love him because why else would his vocals have popped up so much throughout the broadcast – in Adele’s performance of “Skyfall,†in Anne Hathaway’s acceptance speech and even in the “In Memoriam†tribute.

Of course, O’Brien was joking and Crowe’s vocal stylings were mercifully limited to a few moments. As for the multiple appearances by the cast of “Chicago,†a movie that came out a decade ago – well, we’re still trying to figure that one out ourselves.
