Barbara Walters wasted no time Monday morning on “The View†addressing reports last week stating that the 83-year-old newswoman would be retiring in May 2014.

“The paparazzi were outside my home today... however, here I am, and I have no announcement to make,†Walters told the audience and her co-panelists on “The View.†“But I do want to say this: that if and when I might have an announcement to make, I will do it on this program, I promise, and the paparazzi guys -- you will be the last to know.â€

The reports last week stated that Walters would be stepping down from the program she helped create after 17 years next summer. When contacted, ABC had no comment on the reports.

Talk of Walters’ departure is the latest in a series of discussions about the cast of the morning talk show, which will see Joy Behar leaving in August. Reports that outspoken conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck would also be leaving the show were quashed by Walters.

Despite her advanced age, Walters is proving quite resilient, having overcome an adult case of chicken pox already this year.
