The irrepressible Nicki Minaj and the controversial Chris Brown are slated to perform at “The BET Awards 2012,†the latest edition of the annual event celebrating African Americans in entertainment. The irascible Samuel L. Jackson hosts. (BET, 8 p.m.)
Mary-Jane Parker — or rather, Mary-Louise Parker, right — returns as marijuana-dealing mama Nancy Botwin when the cannabis-themed comedy “Weeds†fires up its eighth and final season. Kevin Nealon, left, and Justin Kirk also star. (Showtime, 10 p.m.)
MONDAY
Sorry Jennifer, Courtney, Matt, Matthew and David. The funniest of the “Friends†from the hit NBC sitcom was and still is one Lisa Kudrow, whose satirical series “Web Therapy†returns for a second season. We’ll be there for her. (Showtime, 11 p.m.)
TUESDAY
Everything we know about the English we learned from Monty Python and Benny Hill. So we should probably watch “Michael Wood’s Story of England,†a new series tracing life in one English village from Roman times to the present day. (KOCE, 8 and 9 p.m.)
WEDNESDAY
Happy birthday, America! You don’t look a day over 236. Let’s all celebrate with “A Capitol Fourth,†“Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular†and the “Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular.†(KOCE, 7, 8:30 and 10 p.m.; NBC, 9 p.m.; CBS, 10 p.m.)
THURSDAY
They may be older, and fatter, but they’re forever funky. Thirty-five years on, former members of a Houston high school band reminisce and rehearse before taking it to the stage one more time in the stompin’ 2010 doc “Thunder Soul.†(Showtime, 8 p.m.)

From India’s Taj Mahal to the Alhambra in Spain, the special “Islamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World†surveys a millennium and a half’s worth of art, architecture, textiles, painting and metalwork from across the Muslim world. (KOCE, 9 p.m.)
SATURDAY
Girl’s ink: Rooney Mara, below, assays the role that made “Prometheus’?†Noomi Rapace a star in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,†director David Fincher’s gloomy 2011 remake of the gloomy 2009 Swedish thriller. Daniel Craig also stars. (Starz, 9 p.m.)
