They say a dog may is a man’s best friend, but alas, the relationship is not always reciprocal. The plight of unwanted canines consigned to shelters is detailed in the new documentary “One Nation Under Dog: Stories of Fear, Loss & Betrayal.†(HBO, 9 p.m.)
TUESDAY
From the birth of the Beatles and those bed-ins for peace, to his solo career and his last days at the Dakota, John Lennon’s impact on music, pop culture and politics is examined anew in the documentary “Discovering Lennon.†(BBC America, 6 and 9 p.m.)
WEDNESDAY
Time to man up: A bundle on his doorstep turns a bachelor into a “Baby Daddy†in this new sitcom. And Cedric the Entertainer plays an R&B singer who takes over his father’s pulpit in “The Soul Man.†(ABC Family, 8:30 p.m.; TV Land, 10 p.m.)
THURSDAY
The new special “Justin Bieber: All Around the World†follows the pop-music phenomenon on a 12-day, seven-country jaunt that culminates with a performance in NYC, confirming that it is indeed the Biebs’ world … we’re just living in it. (NBC, 8 p.m.)
FRIDAY
Turner Classic Movies celebrates summertime with a lineup that includes Rob Reiner’s nostalgic 1986 tale “Stand By Me†and the 1980 summer-camp romp “Little Darlings†starring Kristy McNichol and Tatum O’Neal. (TCM, 8 and 11:15 p.m.)
SATURDAY
A former Mossad agent (Helen Mirren, below) may be through with the past, but the past isn’t through with her in director John Madden’s 2011 thriller “The Debt.†Tom Wilkinson, Ciarán Hinds, Sam Worthington and Jessica Chastain also star. (Cinemax, 10 p.m.)
