When the second season of “Marvel’s Jessica Jones†returns to Netflix, its directing credits will look a lot different than most shows. That’s because all 13 of its episodes will be directed by women, according to executive producer and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg.

Rosenberg announced the all-female directing roster during a panel at Transforming Hollywood 7: Diversifying Entertainment, a day-long conference held Friday at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

Variety TV critic Maureen Ryan first reported the announcement.

The show, which follows a failed superhero and alcoholic, played by a steely Krysten Ritter, who’s now employed as a full-time private investigator, was well received when it debuted last year. Then-Times TV critic Mary McNamara called it a “marvel, legally, creatively and, it must be said, surprisingly,†noting that it “rewrote the definition of superhuman.â€

“Yes, Jessica Jones is a woman granted extraordinary strength and, apparently, the ability to fly. But it's her superhumanity, rather than her superpowers, that makes the show so riveting.â€

Fans also loved the show for how it exposed modern-day sexism.

Costar Rachael Taylor also tweeted about the news, calling it â€œcool.†

The move by the powers that be behind “Jessica Jones†comes as Hollywood is still grappling with conversations about diversity and inclusion, as prompted by the #OscarsSoWhite campaign. It follows suit behind that of director Ava DuVernay, who also only chose female directors for her OWN television show, “Queen Sugar.†
