Watch: Taylor Swift hits ‘Letterman’ with ‘Welcome to New York’

Taylor Swift, in the unlikely event that you hadn’t heard, loves New York.
Hours after she revealed on “Good Morning America” that she’d been selected as the city’s so-called global welcome ambassador, Swift took to “Late Show with David Letterman” on Tuesday to perform “Welcome to New York,” the enthusiastic (if simple-minded) tribute to Gotham that opens her new pop-immersion album, “1989.”
The singer elaborated on her feelings in an interview, telling Letterman that she’d been “obsessing” over moving to New York for a year before she finally found “the perfect place” last winter and made the jump from Nashville.
“When I love something I’m very, very vocal about it,” she said. “Anytime I talk to anyone or anytime I do an interview, it’s just like, ‘You don’t understand! You have to go there now! You have to go New York! Just drop what you’re doing -- you have to go there! It’s amazing! It’s the greatest place ever!’ ”
Bonus deep-read analysis: When Letterman asked Swift about Nashville -- specifically, if it was a nice town -- she answered immediately in the affirmative. But then when he wondered if the country capital had great music? Her response was, “Um.”
