Bruno Mars is the latest pop star dipping into scripted TV
Bruno Mars has his sights set on the small screen.
The Grammy award winner has teamed with “Empire†executive producer Brian Grazer for the single-camera family music comedy, according to Deadline. The project has scored a deal to produce a pilot with NBC.
The project isn’t inspired by Mars’ life, however. Written by Prentice Penny, the comedy is centered around a boisterous and slightly dysfunctional family from the Bronx and what happens after they take in their bright-eyed 10-year-old nephew.

Mars and Penny came up with the concept together and will executive produce alongside Imagine TV’s Gracer and Francie Calfo along with Mars’ manager, Brandon Creed.
Mars is the latest pop star to make the move toward TV. Last week rapper Nicki Minaj announced ABC Family (soon to be known as Freeform) had committed to a comedy based on her family’s immigration from Trinidad in the early ‘90s to Queens and the path that let to her eventual rise in music.
And earlier this year it was reported that Snoop Dogg would team with HBO to develop a family drama set in Los Angeles during the Reagan era.
