Dave Alvin, Quetzal top free South Pasadena festival May 4
Veteran Southland roots rocker Dave Alvin, sonic experimentalists String Theory and Grammy-winning Latin rock group Quetzal top the bill for Saturday’s free all-day South Pasadena Eclectic Music Festival and Art Walk.
Alvin -- a member of the Blasters, X, the Knitters and an acclaimed solo singer-songwriter-guitarist -- will headline the Carnegie Stage at the South Pasadena Public Library, which also will host jazz pianist John Proulx, the Los Angeles Clarinet Choir and the Elliott Caine jazz trio.
Quetzal will play the climactic performance at the outdoor Levitt Pavilion, following Tim Gill & the All Stars big band, the jazz-rock group Wilberta, blues musician Kara Granger and others. String Theory will offer several performances at the Levitt during intermissions.

Folk singer Joe Purdy headlines the Gold Line Stage, which also will feature the L.A. Children’s Orchestra, the surf-rock band the Incredible Heavies and other acts.
All in all, more than 40 acts will play from 2 to 10 p.m. at sites throughout the city. Full details are available at EclecticMusicFestival.com.
