On Jan 11, the cast of the musical “Lazarus†arrived in the studio to record its original soundtrack. When they got to the session, they learned that the play’s mastermind, David Bowie, had died the night before.

Now music from the “Lazarus’ cast album has begun to surface. “Killing a Little Time†is the first of three new, original Bowie compositions that will be released posthumously on the soundtrack album.

The song can now be streamed prior to the album’s Oct. 21 release on Columbia/ISO.

The new Bowie compositions on the soundtrack were co-produced by Bowie and Tony Visconti, and recorded with Donny McCaslin and the same quartet that played on Bowie’s final, harrowing “Black Star†album.

Aside from the originals, which also include “When I Met You†and “No Plan,†the album includes thoroughly reworked versions of classics from Bowie’s catalog, produced by the show’s musical director, Henry Hey (who had previously worked on Bowie’s “The Next Day†album).

The play debuted in New York in 2015, and is set to begin a London run on Nov. 8.
