Screening Series: ‘The Judge’: Robert Downey Jr., the ‘missus’ and ‘Norma Rae’
Robert Downey Jr. discusses his experience as a producer for the film in this highlight from the Envelope Screening Series presentation of “The Judge.â€
Robert Downey Jr. stars in “The Judge.†He’s also a producer on the film, the first from Team Downey, the production company he runs with his wife, Susan.
That meant Downey watched the movie many, many more times than he normally sees his own films. He calls the experience “educational†and “objective†as he found himself looking at other actors’ choices much more closely than his own.
“You get out of the habit of being self-centered,†Downey said during a recent Envelope Screening Series presentation of “The Judge.â€
“The missus,†as Downey refers to Susan, doesn’t entirely dispute her husband’s assessment. She just felt the need to expand upon it a bit.
“He’s not lying,†Susan said. “And he did ask to see other people’s takes. But the fact you’re acting as if you didn’t also ask to see yours ... I challenge that.â€
This led to an exchange that ... well, just watch the clip and then tell us that these two could have a future together in front of the camera as well as behind it.
There’s also Downey’s reaction to a revelation from “The Judge†director David Dobkin about a particular nickname Susan has bestowed on her husband. We’re guessing Sally Field would be proud.
