Golden Globes 2013: Keith Urban, Taylor Swift react to song noms

Taylor Swift has been nominated for just about every big music prize out there, from Grammys to Teen Choice Awards. On Thursday, the perpetually cheery pop star got another feather in her cap, scoring a Golden Globe nod for her original song “Safe and Sound,” which appears on “The Hunger Games” soundtrack.

Swift, who’s turning 23 Thursday, was no available to get on the phone to gush about the honor. (She’s reportedly galavanting around England with her new beau, One Direction member Harry Styles.) Instead, she sent a characteristically peppy statement expressing her joy over the nomination, replete with a handful of exclamation points.

“What an amazing and unexpected present!” it read. “This is a huge honor, and I’m really excited and so flattered. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association!”

Keith Urban also felt like celebrating, as both he and his wife, Nicole Kidman, earned Globe nominations. The country singer was honored for “For You,” a song he co-wrote for the Navy SEAL drama “Act of Valor”; while the actress earned a nod for her role in the HBO miniseries “Hemingway & Gellhorn” and another for her part in the little-seen feature film “The Paperboy.”

“I called her immediately and told her how proud I was of her,” said Urban, who was in Los Angeles filming “American Idol,” on which he is a judge. “We’re both looking forward to the show. I love going anywhere with her.”

In London, songwriter Paul Epworth said he had yet to communicate with Adele, his co-writer on the Golden Globe-nominated theme song for the James Bond flick “Skyfall.”

“I have family in town, so I haven’t been able to talk to her yet,” said Epworth, who has written a number of songs with the singer, including her chart-topping “Rolling in the Deep.” “I’m not sure I’m going to be able to make it the ceremony because I just booked a holiday, but I don’t know about Adele. People would much rather see her than me.”

The other best original song nominees included Jon Bon Jovi, who wrote “Not Running Anymore” for the crime caper “Stand Up Guys,” and Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boubil for their new “Les Misérables” addition, “Suddenly.”
