Warner Bros. is going after “The Fugitive†again.

The studio is developing a new big-screen take on the chase-thriller TV series turned feature film, the Los Angeles Times has confirmed. Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.

Christina Hodson, a former development executive who landed scripts on the much-watched Black List of unproduced projects in 2012 and 2013, will write the new “Fugitive.†Warner Bros. is eyeing a start date early next year.

It is not yet known whether the movie will feature new characters or continue the story of the 1993 version starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones. Directed by Andrew Davis and based on the 1960s ABC series, the tale of a wrongly accused surgeon (Ford) running for his life while chasing a one-armed killer became a critical and commercial hit, grossing about $369 million at the worldwide box office and winning Jones an Oscar for best supporting actor.

Jones reprised his role as a dogged lawman the 1998 sequel “U.S. Marshals,†which did not duplicate the success of its predecessor. (A 2000 CBS remake series was also canceled after one season.)

Although Ford did not return for the follow-up film, he has shown a willingness to revisit well-known characters in recent years, namely Han Solo in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens†and Rick Deckard in the upcoming sequel to “Blade Runner.â€
