Golden Globes 2015: ‘Boyhood’ wins for drama film
Richard Linklater’s “Boyhood†won the Golden Globe for best motion picture drama on Sunday night.
The film’s unusual achievement, created over 12 years to capture a young boy (Ellar Coltrane) growing up and his parents (played by Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke) aging before the audience’s very eyes, has been wowing audiences since it first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival nearly a year ago.

“I’ve already been up here once tonight,†said Linklater, who had won the night’s director prize earlier, after winning for best picture. “I’m gonna turn this over to a guy, this film wouldn’t exist if he didn’t take the biggest leap of faith in film history and give us money every year for 12 years to make the movie.â€
Jonathan Sehring, producer on the film and president of distributor IFC Films, said of the seeming gamble of Linklater’s ambitious project, “When he came to us 12 years ago, 14 years ago, we said yes because he has such humanity, he’s so humble, he put so much of his own life into the movie. This is all Richard.â€
Patricia Arquette, who played Coltrane’s character’s mother, was also honored with Globe supporting actress.
Also nominated in the motion picture drama category were “Selma,†“Foxcatcher,†“The Imitation Game†and “The Theory of Everything.â€
