Hollywood headlines: a crazy week in review
A shooting at a midnight screening of the new Batman film,”The Dark Knight Rises,” killed 12 people and wounded 59. Suspect James Holmes, described by police as a loner, wore body armor and a gas mask before the attack.
Actor Fred Willard was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of engaging in a lewd act at an adult theater in Hollywood. The L.A. city attorney’s office said Friday that Willard may enroll in a “diversion program” in lieu of a criminal filing. On Thursday, Willard’s attorney said the actor did nothing wrong.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the 2012 Emmy nominees Thursday morning in a presentation with Kerry Washington of “Scandal” and Jimmy Kimmel, who is hosting the show in September and received a nomination in the variety series category. The list of repeat nominees includes “Mad Men,” which has taken the drama series Emmy for four consecutive years, and “Modern Family,” which has won twice for comedy series. New to the ballot are “Veep,” “Girls,” “New Girl” actress Zooey Deschanel and popular History series “Hatfields & McCoys,” among others.
It seems people have been heading to the store to pick themselves up some David Hasselhoff. Hundreds of cardboard cutouts of David Hasselhoff, specifically, that have been stolen from stores in New England.

Bruce Springsteen and former Beatle Paul McCartney were told “you can’t do that” when they ran past the curfew time imposed on concerts in London’s Hyde Park. Organizers of the festival at which they were playing Saturday pulled the plug on the closing minutes of their performance.

An autopsy is planned for Sage Stallone, actor Sylvester Stallone’s eldest son, who may have been dead for several days before he was found last Friday afternoon at his home in the Hollywood Hills.

After mega-retailer Wal-Mart announced a contest to sponsor a Pitbull appearance at the store location in its chain with the most Facebook “likes,” a community of smart alecks banded together to exile the Miami-born Cuban American to one of the most obscure locations in the company’s vast chain: Kodiak, Alaska, which sits on Kodiak Island just south of the Alaskan mainland and is, according to the writer who started the movement, “bear infested.”

Halle Berry had a fall at work Tuesday night and sustained a minor head injury that sent her briefly to the hospital. The 45-year-old actress was shooting a fight sequence for her latest flick, “The Hive,” when she fell and hit her head, L.A. Now reported.
