What if ‘Frozen’ were a metal band? It would be ‘Huntsman: Winter’s War’
It looks as though Universal has figured out that the best part about “Snow White and the Huntsman†was neither Snow White nor the Huntsman. It was Charlize Theron’s Evil Queen. And then the studio cranked it up to 11.
A new set of posters for “The Huntsman: Winter’s War†was revealed today focusing on returning character Queen Ravenna (Theron) and introducing new characters Freya, the Ice Queen (Emily Blunt), and Sara, the warrior (Jessica Chastain). Oh yeah, and Chris Hemsworth is back as the titular “Huntsman†Eric, but seriously we’re all just fixated on the potential of combining Blunt, Chastain and Theron into a seriously metal band called “the Queens.â€

“The Huntsman†is the follow-up film for 2012’s “Snow White and the Huntsman,†a dark, fantasy-action adaptation of the classic fairy tale that saw the Evil Queen hungry for Snow White’s heart in order to attain immortality. As such stories go, the Evil Queen is vanquished by Snow White instead.
The basic premise of “The Huntsman†is that long before the events of the first film, Ravenna’s sister Freya fled their kingdom following a heartbreaking betrayal, only to spend decades in a sort of winter palace raising an army of deadly huntsmen. Eric and Sara were a part of her warrior army who defied her only demand: no falling in love.
Also, Freya has the ability to freeze any enemies.
When Freya learns of her sister’s demise and seeks to claim the Magic Mirror, she discovers that Ravenna can be resurrected. Together the sisters amass an undefeatable force of darkness, the likes of which the enchanted land has never seen. Undefeatable except by those defiant huntsmen. Because love really is the only thing that can ruin evil plans.
So, basically, in the same way that “Snow White and the Huntsman†offered viewers a darker Snow White with combat skills (in the form of Kristen Stewart, who is not returning for this film), it looks like “The Huntsman†is offering a sort of dark and powerful version of the “Frozen†sisters.
Directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, “The Huntsman: Winter’s War†is set to be released April 22, 2016.
