Sting will reopen Bataclan in Paris with its first show since deadly terror attacks
Sting will play the first show at the Bataclan theater to be held since coordinated terrorist attacks killed 90 people at an Eagles of Death Metal show there and dozens more elsewhere in Paris nearly a year ago.
“In reopening the Bataclan, we have two important tasks to reconcile,†Sting said on his website, announcing that tickets for the Nov. 12 gig go on sale this coming Tuesday and may be purchased online.
“First, to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the attack a year ago, and second to celebrate the life and the music that this historic theater represents. In doing so we hope to respect the memory as well as the life-affirming spirit of those who fell. We shall not forget them.â€
Sting will play songs off his new album and be joined by Dominic Miller and Rufus Miller on guitar and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums. The record, “57th & 9th,†drops on Nov. 11.
Proceeds from the show will go to two charities: Life For Paris and 13 Novembre: Fraternité Verité. The Paris mayor’s office said recently that memorial ceremonies will be held at each of the six attack sites on Nov. 13, the anniversary of the carnage.
Pete Doherty had been reported previously as the first act coming to the reopening theater. He’ll play Nov. 16 and 17, followed by Youssou N’Dour on Nov. 18 and 19.
