Rihanna’s childhood memories of the movie ‘Jaws’ are a little fishy

Something’s fishy with the interview Rihanna did with Harper’s Bazaar, which features her swimming with sharks in a multiple-page fashion spread to honor the 40th anniversary of the movie “Jaws.”
Remember the movie poster? There’s a shot just like that.
Rihanna also remembers “Jaws,” and that’s where things get sketchy.
Asked whether she watched the movie when she was a kid, and whether she was scared or thrilled by it, she answers thusly:
“Both! It freaked me out because I was a beach baby, so every time a new ‘Jaws’ came out I would take months off from the beach or just sit on the sand,” the singer tells the magazine.
“If I happened to get in the water, my dad would hum the theme music, and I was right back out of it. But that was really my fault because I was obsessed with ‘Jaws.’ Steven Spielberg was my childhood hero.”
Here’s the thing: “Jaws” came out 40 years ago, in 1976. “Jaws 2” came out in 1978. “Jaws 3-D” came out in 1983.
Rihanna was born in 1988.
Ah, the malleability of our memories.
By 1988, Spielberg -- who directed only the first “Jaws,” by the way -- was deep into “Indiana Jones” territory. His “Jurassic Park” franchise hit theaters a few months after Rihanna turned 5.
Perhaps movies take a long time to hit the theaters in the Bahamas?
