Kelly Rowland’s mother dies; singer honors ‘incredible soul’
Kelly Rowland is mourning the loss of her mother, Doris Rowland Garrison, who died in Atlanta on Tuesday at age 66.
The former judge of “The X-Factor†confirmed the news in a statement provided to the Los Angeles Times by her rep.
“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my mother, Doris Rowland Garrison,†the statement said. “She was an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices so that I could become the woman — and now mother — I am today.â€
Rowland, 33, said she and her family “humbly appreciate all the love and support†given in the wake of Garrison’s passing and asked for privacy “during this difficult time.â€
The former Destiny’s Child singer, who now goes by her married name, Kelly Rowland Weatherspoon, became a new mom last month when she welcomed son Titan with husband Tim Weatherspoon. She and Weatherspoon, her manager, secretly wed in Costa Rica in May.
Rowland was raised by her mother after Garrison left Kelly’s father when the singer was only 7, Us Weekly reported.
In addition to her daughter, Garrison is survived by son Orlando Rowland, the Associated Press said. Services will be held Saturday in Decatur, Ga.
