Katie Holmes tap-danced around truth a day before divorce filing
Katie Holmes couldn’t tell a lie, but she definitely tap danced around the truth in an interview conducted the day before she filed for divorce from Tom Cruise.
In hindsight, her soon-to-be-blindsided spouse’s name was remarkably absent from a sit-down she had with California style magazine C on a Wednesday in June, according to Kelsey McKinnon, the senior editor who talked to Holmes.
“Going back over the tapes, there were signs,†McKinnon said (via the New York Post). “Holmes was certainly very aware of herself, laying a couple of cards on the table but never showing her whole hand.â€
Holmes would go on the next day to file for divorce in a New York court, with Cruise off filming in Iceland when the bomb went off in the media the following Monday.
Eleven days later, a settlement would be reached in what turned out to be one of the biggest gossip letdowns in recent memory.
Chatting with C, the actress spoke of feeling “more balanced†and having “more to bring to the table†in her work, compared with her younger self.
But when asked whether having daughter Suri had brought her closer to Cruise, she went sideways.
“I don’t know. I mean ... I don’t know,†Holmes said. “People have been having babies a long time.â€
Yes, Katie. Yes, they have.
