Justin Bieber turns himself in to Toronto police on assault charge
What did Justin Bieber’s team decide during that huddle they just had in Panama? Perhaps it was to get Bieber’s legal life in order: The pop star on Wednesday afternoon turned himself in to Toronto police in response to an assault charge stemming from a Dec. 29 incident involving a limo driver -- that via the Associated Press.
The 19-year-old Canadian made his way into the police station through a crazy mob of media and screaming fans, Toronto’s CP24 reported. The mad crush can be seen on video from TMZ, which cited sources who said the Biebs would be booked, cited and released on his own recognizance.
He (not just members of his entourage) allegedly got into something with the driver of a limo after a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game, drawing the assault charge.
Prior to the surrender, Bieber, manager Scooter Braun and mentor Usher all came together in Panama over the weekend following the singer’s arrest last Thursday in Miami Beach on suspicion of DUI, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license. Bieber and Braun reportedly headed back to L.A. on Tuesday.
The Biebs has entered a not guilty plea in the Miami incident, according to TMZ. His arraignment isn’t until Feb. 14, but the website noted that in that locale being arrested for a misdemeanor is the same as being charged, so a written plea was submitted by his lawyer.
Braun on Wednesday afternoon tweeted the following: “for all those asking @JeremyBieber and @pattiemallette love their son. Stop passing judgement on a situation u dont understand. i ask people to be kind and hope for the best in people. not assume the worst. thanks.â€
Bieber, meanwhile, posted a video on Instagram announcing the music video for his new single, “Confident.†Remember, he’s actually most famous for being a performer of songs?
All this as a passel of (read, more than 100,000) Americans signed an online petition at WhiteHouse.gov asking that the pop star be deported back to Canada. Breaking the 100K barrier means the petition will get a look-see from the president.
