Call it beginner’s luck, or at least an auspicious start: First-time nominees won Golden Globes for both original score and original song for a motion picture.

Composer Mychael Danna was recognized for his score for “Life of Pi,†director Ang Lee’s fantastical tale of an Indian boy who is stranded at sea and shares his lifeboat with a fearsome Bengal tiger. Among those he competed with were John Williams, for “Lincoln,†and “Alexandre Desplat, for “Argo.â€

During his acceptance speech, Danna thanked his director on behalf of the cast and crew “for guiding us all to shore so safely.â€

“It’s very strange to be here,†the singer said. “Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your world for a night. It’s amazing. We’ve been pissing ourselves laughing.â€
