Emmys 2012: ‘American Horror Story’s’ Connie Britton sings

Connie Britton’s time on “American Horror Story†is over, but she’s still doing something terrifying: Singing. But this time the story has a happier ending.

“I have to tell you, I have gone from being utterly petrified of singing to crack-mode,†Britton said from Nashville, where she’s filming her new series, “Nashville.†“I’m addicted. T-Bone Burnett is a god.â€

Britton was already awake with her baby when the nominations were announced, but it wasn’t “Horror Story’s†creator Ryan Murphy who called her. “You think he would!†Britton said. “Every year, it’s my cousin who does the alerting. My dear cousin who is like a sister to me. She without fail is watching every year. She always beeps the manager, the publicist. Every year.â€

The first season of Murphy’s horror anthology series tied with “Mad Men†as the most nominated drama with 17 nods, although it’s competing in the miniseries and not the drama category. Brritton’s character had quite a few memorable moments during the series, including having sex with a rubber-suited ghost she mistook for her husband, giving birth to the antichrist, and dying. She says the birth scene was the hardest.

“That was a very arduous scene,†she says. “It took three days to complete. Three days!... And you have to really get your face just right and scream....â€

Still, despite the terrors, it’s all paid off for Britton.

“I actually thought no one would ever give me an Emmy nom for doing it with a rubber guy. It all works out in the end.â€
