Emmy parties: Top event producer Tony Schubert spills his secrets

With Emmy weekend officially rounding the corner, so are a slew of posh parties to celebrate the stars and their accomplishments in the realm of television.

Equally as busy as the TV industry is leading event producer Tony Schubert, who with his event production company, Event Eleven, is producing some of the Emmy’s top parties, including the Audi Emmy party, the William Morris Endeavor Emmy party, the Entertainment Weekly Emmy party, the NBC party and the Audi Green Room at the actual Emmys.

Despite the obvious pressure of putting together such high-class affairs for so many high-powered people, Schubert downplays his efforts.

“Emmys are not really different than producing large events for the Super Bowl, the Oscars or any other event that surrounds a big awards show,†he says. “Normal challenges can range from permitting, dealing with city officials, making sure last-minute client requests are handled and making sure that every last detail is buttoned up.â€

Schubert’s parties are sleek, fun affairs. The Entertainment Weekly party he’s producing happens Friday night at Fig & Olive in West Hollywood.

Guests of that and Schubert’s other parties can expect “amazing lighting and a sexy room. Our aesthetic is very clean, modern and sophisticated,†he says.

Parties that Schubert did not produce will also be popping up all over the city. Highlights include Friday’s Variety and Women in Film Pre-Emmy celebration at Scarpetta. The host committee for that party includes Alec Baldwin, Bryan Cranston, Laura Dern, Jimmy Kimmel, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jane Lynch, Elisabeth Moss, Kerry Washington and Alfre Woodard.

On Saturday, Showtime will host an exclusive party at the Sunset Tower hotel for its nominees, including the casts of its hit shows “Dexter,†“Nurse Jackie†and “Homeland.†Also on Saturday the British Academy of Film and Television Arts will hold its annual BAFTA tea at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills.

The two biggest parties on Emmy night will be the official Governors Ball that follows the show at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and the HBO fete, which reels in stars from channels across the dial for a Bacchanalian affair at the Pacific Design Center.

Will Schubert get to party? Not until after the actual parties end. And he’ll probably have some great stories, like he always does.

His favorite is from a TV Guide Emmy party he produced about eight years back that took place in a parking lot adjacent to Les Deux nightclub.

“John Legend was performing and we had Kanye as a surprise. No one told us that he was also performing at the Justin Timberlake concert that same night and he wouldn’t be able to get to us until 11:30 p.m.! We needed a police escort to get him to us by 11:15, and he actually made it just in time to go onstage. Love those moments.â€
