KCBS-KCAL news director Scott Diener to exit post
Veteran news director Scott Diener is leaving KCBS-KCAL after just over five years on the job.
Diener is leaving his position as vice president and news director of the CBS-owned duopoly to pursue other opportunities.
Steve Mauldin, president and general manager of KCBS-KCAL, said in a statement: “[Scott] should be proud of what he has accomplished here in Los Angeles during his time at CBS 2 and KCAL 9. We wish him the very best as he moves on to his next adventure and look forward to building on the success that he helped create.”
Diener made the jump to KCBS-KCAL with Mauldin. Both worked for KTVT and KTXA, the CBS-owned duopoly in Dallas-Fort Worth, before taking on their L.A.-based positions -- Mauldin in December 2009 and Diener in January 2010.
Diener took on the position at KCBS-KCAL formerly occupied by Nancy Bauer Gonzales, who had held the job since 2001.
Though Wednesday marks his last day, he is said to be working in the office overseeing the coverage of the fire in Santa Clarita.
The search for a replacement is underway.
Diener graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
